The Henry Viscardi Achievement Awards were established to honor the legacy and vision of The Viscardi Center’s founder, Dr. Henry Viscardi, Jr., who himself wore prosthetic legs. As one of the world’s leading advocates for people with disabilities he served as a disability advisor to eight presidents, from Franklin D. Roosevelt to Jimmy Carter. These international Awards, first bestowed in March 2013, recognize exemplary leaders in the disability community who have had a profound impact on shaping attitudes, raising awareness and improving the quality of life of people with disabilities.

The Henry Viscardi Achievement Awards have drawn nominations from cities throughout the U.S. and countries around the world. Nominations have included individuals with a wide range of disabilities from academia, healthcare, government, non-profit and corporate sectors. Read about the 2014 Henry Viscardi Achievement Awards recipients.

This year’s Awards Selection Committee is co-chaired by Robert Dole, former U.S. Senator, and Rosangela Berman Bieler, Chief, Disability Section – Program Division, UNICEF. Complete list of the 2015 Selection Committee.

The nomination process for the 2015 Henry Viscardi Achievement Awards is closed. Please watch for the announcement of the 2015 Award recipients in early December. Click here to learn more about past Award recipients.
